Event description:

The eighth Borderlines Film Festival will screen more than 80 films in 40 venues in the Marches between Friday 26th February and Sunday 14th March.

Where most film festivals gather people together in one location, Borderlines covers a huge span of countryside from Wem in North Shropshire all the way down to Ross-on-Wye in South Herefordshire, a distance of over 80 miles.

Films scarcely seen outside London, Machan, Mascarades and the “clear-eyed, unpretentious Japanese movie” (The Guardian) Still Walking play alongside Oscar and BAFTA contenders like Up in the Air, An Education, The White Ribbon, and A Prophet.

There’s a strand of contentious documentaries We Live in Public, The Yes Men Fix the World that tie in with a day exploring the topical subject of citizen journalism Here Comes Everyone:).

Meanwhile Starsuckers director Chris Atkins comes to Hereford for a series of events including Taking Liberties, his documentary that spotlighted the insidious erosion of civil liberties under the Blair government, screening appropriately in the Cathedral which houses a copy of the Magna Carta.
