Bright Star

Back view of girl sitting among bluebells reading a letter

A stunningly visual period drama based on the romantic poet John Keats's relationship with Fanny Brawne, with special appeal for students of English and Literature at GCSE, AS and A2 and equivalent and those planning to carry these subjects on to Higher Education

Dir: Jane Campion, Australia/UK 2009, Drama, 1hr 59mins (PG)
Jane Campion, the director of The Piano, has scripted and directed a sumptuous account of the last three years of Keats's life when he was perhaps at his most creative. The story is told from the point of view of a singular young girl, Fanny Brawne, his neighbour and later his fiancee, and their love affair acts as a counterpoint to the seasonal and emotional changes that find their way into Keats's writing, both poetry and  letters.
